New Games for Used Game Prices

Gamers have recently found another reason to get riled up: used games. There have been rumors that the PS4 and Xbox 720 will block used games. Publishers have gone after used game sales by way of online passes. I have a solution to the used game issue: buy the game new. You're probably saying "I buy used to to get the game cheaper." Well, you can get the game new for "cheaper" if you are patient. Take "The Darkness 2." It came out Feb 7th for $60 and was pretty good. On May 29th, Best Buy had a one day sale on the game for $12.  This is an unusual case, but you can frequently acquire brand new games normally costing $60 for anywhere between $25 to $35 about a month or two after it releases. Amazon had Mass Effect 3 on sales for $35 in April and the game had just been released in March. Also, load up on new games during the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday. Amazon was selling Batman: Arkham City and Assassin's Creed: Revelations for $35 a piece on several different days. Assassins's Creed: Revelations had only been available for about 3 weeks when the sale occured. So buy new, save some $$$, and stop worrying about used games.

  1. Future consoles blocking used games would still be bad though – it would definitely kill GameFly. I doubt it’ll happen – they value GameStop as an advertiser.
